There is no shortage of campgrounds in this state, but you need to know which ones allow for beach access or at least proximity to the seashore. The good news is that there are many good options for an RV camping trip to the beach.

RV campgrounds on the beach in North Carolina include several in the Outer Banks, such as Camp Hatteras RV Resort and Campground, Cedar Island RV Park, Kitty Hawk RV Park, and Ocean Waves Campground. You can be near the water at Bells Island, Carolina Beach State Park, and Holden Beach Campground.

If you’re considering making a weekend trip to the beach, here are the campgrounds you should be familiar with.

The Best RV Campgrounds on the NC Beaches

Many campgrounds boast impressive scenery near the beaches in North Carolina, but they don’t all accommodate RVs.

Here are the top RV campgrounds near the NC beaches for you to think about for your next trip.

1. Bells Island Campground

While it may not be on the Atlantic Ocean, the Bells Island Campground is situated on the shore of the Currituck Sound.

It’s the ideal spot to launch your kayak, go for a mid-afternoon swim, or enjoy a little fishing from the shore. Campers can decide whether they want the full hook-up for their RV or only water or electricity.

2. Camp Hatteras RV Resort and Campground

Staying near the Outer Banks is on the must-see list of many campers. Camp Hatteras RV Resort doesn’t disappoint when it comes to amenities.

You can divide your time between the sandy seashore and the Pamlico Sound.

The best part is that you won’t have to fight for your spot at this RV park as they have hundreds of RV hookup sites with an indoor heated pool and Wi-Fi.

3. Carolina Beach State Park Campground

Get a spot right on the water at the Carolina Beach State Park. Located right on the marina, this is a great spot with some full RV hookups available.

You can hike, bike, boat, or fish from this sought-after location.

Keep in mind that while it’s located on the water, it doesn’t have clear beach access to the Atlantic Ocean for those planning to swim in the surf, but it isn’t too far either.

4. Cedar Island RV Park

Cedar Island RV Park is great for year-round camping in your RV. Campers who want a clear view of the water won’t be disappointed, as almost everyone can view the Pamlico Sound or Cedar Island Bay.

This campsite isn’t located directly on the beach, but it’s only a ferry ride from Ocracoke Island and the Outer Banks.

Meanwhile, Cedar Island RV Park offers boating, kayak and canoe rentals, and even horseback riding.

5. Harkers Island RV Resort

If you want oceanfront water access, you won’t want to miss the Harkers Island RV Resort.

Every campsite at this resort has full hookups, but be aware – these spots tend to fill quite fast, so you’ll need to plan well in advance.

At this pristine location, you can head out on your boat, enjoy the beach, or swim in the pool.

6. Holden Beach RV Campground

While it’s a little farther away from the seashore, Holden Beach RV Campground is still one of the best options for RV campers.

It’s just two miles from the water, a quick drive from your campsite or a decent walk.

This location gives you plenty of options ranging from kayaking to fishing to hiking if you prefer not to spend your time on the beach. It boasts affordable full hookups for RVs, tent camping, and glamping.

7. Kitty Hawk RV Park

One of the most sought-after destinations for a vacation in North Carolina is the Outer Banks. You can explore what this area offers best with a trip to Kitty Hawk RV Park.

With a prime camping spot at Kitty Hawk, you’ll have access to the best areas, from restaurants and shopping to the sandy seashore. It also features full hookups with water, sewer, electricity, and cable.

8. OBX Campground

Much like Kitty Hawk RV Park, the OBX Campground in Kill Devil Hills is a bustling RV park with 56 sites. While you won’t be right on the seashore, you’re just a few minutes away.

You get all the perks of being near the beach without the endless sand being tracked into your RV. That being said, you’ll still have beach and boat pier access.

9. Ocean Waves Campground

While not as large as the Camp Hatteras RV Resort, the Ocean Waves Campground still has several campsites available for curious campers in the Outer Banks.

With 68 hookups available, you’ll have the chance to unwind with direct access to the beach. Plus, you’ll have access to their swimming pool if the ocean isn’t ideal.

They have concrete site pads perfect for setting up camp and Wi-Fi throughout the campground.

10. Oregon Inlet Campground

Situated on the gorgeous Cape Hatteras, Oregon Inlet is just minutes from Nags Head and almost directly on the beach.

It’ll take just a few minutes to walk from your RV to the sand, where you can look for seashells or try surfing.

Remember that this site has limited options for RV hookups, so be sure to book your reservation in advance if you want to take advantage of these.

11. Surf City Family Campground

Staying on the beach has never been easier or more beautiful than staying at the Surf City Family Campground, situated 100 feet away from the water at North Topsail Beach.

They have several full hookup spots for RVs though it should be noted that it may not be ideal for large rigs though it isn’t impossible. Smaller RVs will fit much more comfortably into these campsites.

Many people who stay here comment on how friendly the owners are, but some amenities are a bit older. However, this likely won’t affect you much if you have your own RV.

12. Turkey Point RV Park

If you want to explore the beach a little off the beaten path, you might want to explore Sneads Ferry via the Turkey Point RV Park.

It takes mere minutes to get from your RV sites to the water, but that isn’t all it offers.

You’ll also have access to their saltwater swimming pool and be near other attractions like the aquarium and nearby wineries.

13. Winners RV Park

Campers who want robust amenities and fun things to do around the beach can’t go wrong with the Winners RV Park.

You’ll have the opportunity to fish and surf, lounging by the beach, and enjoy a little sun. This campground is located on Carolina Beach with affordable full hook-ups.
